日本製の角の杉材で作られた薄板

（うすいた）のご紹介です。

こちらは焼杉となっており、杉の表面と

裏面を軽く焼いて、うっすらと焦げ目が

付けられています。

表面を焼くことで、汚れや変色などを防ぐ

意味と、古い茶室などの侘びた雰囲気に

合わせるために、焼杉の薄板を使う場合が

あります。

薄く丁寧に焼いてあるので、木目が

よく見えて、風情のある雰囲気に

仕上がっています。

花入自体や飾る場所の雰囲気によっても、

使う薄板を変える場合があります。

薄板とは、花入の下に敷く薄い板で、

床の間などに花入を飾る時に花台のような

役割をします。

蛤端（はまぐりば）とは、薄板の四辺の端の

部分が、貝の蛤の合口のような尖った形に

仕上げられているものをいいます。

この薄板は「真・行・草」の内、日常喫茶の

「草」の部類に入ります。

「真」は仏様や貴人への供茶などの献茶に

類する正式な茶事で「行」は「真」と「草」

の中間になります。

この薄板に合わせる花入も「草」の花入を

セレクトして頂くとより引き立つと

思われます。

「草」の花入とは、無釉陶や自然釉陶などに

なります。

伊賀焼や信楽焼、備前焼、丹波焼などが

それに当てはまります。

また、竹の花入れを置くこともあります。

こうした茶道の約束事は、必ずその理由が

あるのでルールに沿った方が、花や道具が

より引き立つと思われます。

自然の杉ですので、木目がそれぞれ異なって

おり、それが個性となっています。

Made in Japan – Thin Rectangular Board with “Clam Shell” Edges – Charred Cedar (Flower Stand)

This is an introduction to a thin rectangular board made from Japanese cedar.

This board is crafted from charred cedar, where both the front and back surfaces have been lightly scorched, leaving a faint charred finish.

Charring the surface serves two purposes: it helps protect the board from dirt and discoloration, and it also complements the rustic aesthetic of traditional tea rooms, which often embrace a wabi-sabi atmosphere.

Because it is gently and thinly charred, the wood grain remains clearly visible, creating an elegant and atmospheric finish.

Depending on the type of flower container and the overall setting, different boards may be selected for display.

A “usu-ita” (thin board) is a slender piece of wood placed beneath a flower container, serving a role similar to that of a flower stand when arranging flowers in an alcove (tokonoma) or similar space.

The term “hamaguriba” refers to the shape of the board’s four edges, which are carved to resemble the sharp joint of a clam shell.

This particular board falls under the “sō” (informal) category within the three traditional classifications of tea utensils: shin (formal), gyō (semi-formal), and sō (informal), used for everyday tea gatherings.

“Shin” is used for formal tea ceremonies such as offerings to Buddha or honored guests, while “gyō” is a middle ground between formal and informal.

To harmonize with this sō-style board, it is ideal to pair it with a flower container of the same category.

“Sō”-style flower containers include unglazed ceramics or those with natural ash glazes, such as Iga ware, Shigaraki ware, Bizen ware, and Tamba ware. Bamboo flower containers may also be used.

In tea ceremony, such conventions always have meaningful reasoning behind them. Following these rules helps to better highlight the beauty of both the flowers and the utensils.

As this product is made from natural cedar, each piece has a unique wood grain, which adds to its individual character.

日本製 薄板方形蛤蜊口燒杉（花台）

這是一款由日本製的方形杉木製成的薄板（うすいた）。

此款為燒杉工藝，表面與背面經過輕微炙燒，呈現出淡淡的焦痕。

通過燒製表面，不僅可以防止污漬與變色，也能與古老茶室等具有寂靜風情的空間相呼應，因此有時會使用燒杉薄板。

燒製得十分細緻輕薄，木紋清晰可見，整體呈現出風雅的氣氛。

根據花器本身及擺放地點的氛圍不同，所使用的薄板也可能有所變化。

「薄板」是指放置於花器下方的一塊薄木板，在在如床之間等處擺放花器時，起到花台的作用。

所謂「蛤蜊口」，是指薄板四邊的邊緣部分，被打磨成如蛤蜊殼合口一般銳利的形狀。

此薄板屬於「真・行・草」中的「草」類，用於日常的簡便茶會。

「真」是指供奉佛像或貴人時的正式茶事，「行」則是介於「真」與「草」之間的中庸形式。

若能搭配「草」類型的花器，更能襯托此薄板的風格。

「草」類的花器，通常為無釉陶器或自然釉陶器。

如伊賀燒、信樂燒、備前燒、丹波燒等，皆屬於此類。

有時也會使用竹製花器。
