A sukiya-bukuro is a type of pouch used in the tea ceremony to carry items such as a fukusa (silk cloth), folding fan, yōji (sweet pick), kaishi (paper for sweets), and shino-bukuro (incense pouch). It functions much like a handbag for traditional Japanese attire, and can be used not only for tea gatherings but also as an elegant accessory when going out in kimono. The Konparu-te Kinran brocade is one of the famous meibutsugire (notable textiles). According to tradition, it was a fabric pattern taken from a Noh costume presented to the Noh actor Konparu Dayū either by Toyotomi Hideyoshi or, in another account, by Ashikaga Yoshimasa. The textile features vertical stripes in navy, green, brown, light blue, orange, and yellow, adorned with auspicious motifs such as takara-zukushi (treasures) and floral patterns including plum blossoms, all woven with gold threads. This brocade was used for the pouch cloth (shifuku) of the famous tea container Aki no Yo chaire (“Autumn Night” tea caddy), and a similar fabric was also used for the Asukagawa chaire. It is a historically significant textile that has been handed down since the Momoyama period (late 16th century).
