These handmade rice bowls are shaped on a potter’s wheel using coarse, reddish-brown clay. A purple glaze has been applied, with a white glaze appearing to have been applied over it. Inside the bowls, the rim is covered with white glaze, while the rest of the interior is finished in purple glaze, creating a beautiful two-tone design. On the outside, the white and purple glazes intermingle, with the purple glaze appearing here and there between the areas where the white glaze has flowed downward. The faint traces of the potter’s wheel can be seen on the surface, giving the bowls a distinct handmade character. The overall shape has a gentle roundness, while the rim opens slightly outward, making the bowls comfortable to eat from and pleasant on the lips. The surface has a glossy finish, with fine crazing visible throughout, as well as a few small pinholes.
