越前塗から木製　唐松蒔絵の炉縁（ろぶち）のご紹介です。

炉縁とは茶道で使う炉の炭櫃（すびつ）の上にはめる木の枠のことです。

畳に火気が伝わるのを防ぐためと、装飾の意味があります。

炉縁には様々な種類のものがありますが、こうした真塗りのものや

蒔絵を施したものは、主に広間に使われます。

広間は四畳半以上の座敷をいい、小間とは対照的で

小間が「草庵」であるのに対し、広間は「書院」に属します。

広間は書院の作法を原則としますが、草庵の作法を取り入れる試みが

されてきました。

この炉縁は木製の木地に黒うるしを塗り、その上に蒔絵を施していますが

この蒔絵が「唐松蒔絵」というものです。

唐松蒔絵は、他の茶道具である茶器や塗り物にも使われており

昔から好まれてきた蒔絵の一つであるといえます。

This is a wooden robuchi (hearth frame) crafted in Echizen lacquerware, featuring a karamatsu maki-e (Japanese larch design in sprinkled gold decoration).

In the tea ceremony, a robuchi is a wooden frame set over the subitsu (charcoal hearth) of a ro (sunken hearth). It serves both practical and aesthetic purposes: to prevent heat from transferring to the tatami mat and to add a refined decorative element to the setting.

There are various types of robuchi, and those finished with shin-nuri (glossy black lacquer) or decorated with maki-e are typically used in larger tea rooms (hiroma).

A hiroma refers to a room of four-and-a-half tatami mats or larger, and is the opposite of a koma (small room). While koma reflects the sōan (rustic hut) style, the hiroma follows the shoin (formal study room) tradition.

Although the hiroma generally adheres to shoin-style etiquette, efforts have been made to incorporate elements of the more rustic sōan-style into its practice.

This robuchi is made from wood, coated with black urushi (lacquer), and decorated with karamatsu maki-e on its surface.

Karamatsu maki-e is a classic decorative motif also found on other tea utensils and lacquerware, and has long been favored for its elegance and seasonal resonance.

The rich, lustrous black lacquer (shin-nuri) contrasts beautifully with the vivid gold of the maki-e, resulting in a refined piece with a sense of luxury and dignity.
