山中塗から宗広 作　菊　香合のご紹介です。

香合とは香を入れる蓋付きの器で、茶道で炭斗に仕組んだり

棚に飾ったり、帛紗や紙釜敷にのせて床の間に

飾ったりもします。

鑑賞の対象となることが多く、大変多くの種類があります。

この香合の外側は「いじ塗」の技法で塗られ、その上に

菊の蒔絵が描かれています。

「いじ塗」とは、下地研立の上にうるしを厚めに塗り

乾漆粉を蒔いて固める塗り方です。

ここでは表面に細かい砂を蒔いたような凹凸があり

ざらっとした感触が特徴となっています。

その上に、あたかも本物の菊の葉が使われているかのように

リアルに蒔絵が描かれています。

この蒔絵は平面的なものではなく、立体的で凹凸があり

葉脈や茎まで忠実に再現されており、高い技術が

注がれています。

内側は朱塗の無地でシンプルなものとなっており

平坦で径が大きく香が置きやすくなっています。

多くの高度な技が使われた逸品といえます。

Yamanaka Lacquerware – Kōgō (Incense Container) with Chrysanthemum Design by Soko – Maki-e on Textured Lacquer – Wood and Urushi Finish

We are pleased to introduce this kōgō (incense container) with a chrysanthemum motif, crafted by Soko in the Yamanaka lacquerware tradition.

A kōgō is a lidded container used to hold incense, often incorporated into tea ceremony settings—placed inside a sumitori (charcoal container), displayed on a shelf, or arranged with a fukusa or decorative paper mat in the tokonoma (alcove).
It serves both a functional and aesthetic role, and comes in a wide variety of styles and designs, often admired as objects of art.

The exterior of this piece is finished in the iji-nuri technique, over which a chrysanthemum design is rendered in maki-e (gold and silver lacquer painting).

Iji-nuri is a textured lacquering method that involves applying a thick layer of urushi lacquer over a polished undercoat, then sprinkling dry lacquer powder to create a hardened, tactile surface.
In this piece, the surface has a slightly rough, sandy texture that adds visual depth and a distinct sensory appeal.

Over this textured base, the chrysanthemum leaves are so finely and realistically depicted in maki-e that they appear almost lifelike, as if actual leaves were pressed into the surface.

Unlike flat lacquer designs, this maki-e has a three-dimensional quality, with raised detailing that faithfully captures leaf veins and stems—showcasing a remarkable level of craftsmanship and artistic precision.

The interior is finished in a plain vermilion lacquer, smooth and simple, with a wide, flat base that makes it easy to place and handle incense.

This is a truly exceptional piece that brings together multiple advanced lacquering techniques in a harmonious and elegant form.

此款香合的外侧采用“いじ塗”（砂纹涂）技法涂饰，并在其上描绘了菊花蒔绘图案。

“いじ塗”是一种在经过研磨处理的底层上，厚涂漆液后撒上干漆粉使其固化成型的传统工艺。

其表面呈现出如撒有细砂般的细微凹凸质感，触感略显粗糙，为此技法的一大特色。

蒔绘图案以极高的写实风格描绘，使人仿佛置身于真实菊叶之中，纹理清晰、层次分明。
