讃岐塗から木製くりぬきの蓋付鉢（菓子器）

のご紹介です。

熟練の職人さんが一彫り一彫りノミで

彫って作った、くりぬきの素地に

天然のうるしを摺り込み、幾度も塗り重ねて

仕上げたものです。

「象谷塗」（ぞうこくぬり）とは、

香川漆芸の創始者　玉楮象谷

（たまかじぞうこく）の名前をとり

「象谷塗」と呼ばれるようになりました。

ろくろで加工した素地を木地固めして、

生漆を刷毛で何度も摺り込み、その上に

川辺や池に群生しているイネ科の多年草の

稈の中に入っている真菰（まこも）を

漆の上に撒き、さらに漆を摺り込んで

仕上げます。

永年使い込むうちに、艶や独特の陰影が出て

渋い味わいが増してきます。

象谷塗は大変堅牢に出来ており、普段の

日常生活にどんどん使って頂ける漆器です。

ノミ目をわざと残し、ざっくりとした質感と

手作り感が出ており大変な手間と卓越した

技術で作られています。

傷も目立ちにくく、ノミ跡が滑り止めの

役目を持っていたり手にしっくりと馴染む

感覚は、手作りならではです。

卓越した耐久性も持っているので永く

お使い頂けます。

小ぶりな蓋付鉢は菓子器としてやご飯や

お料理なども入れて頂けます。

外側全面に象谷が施されておりシンプルな

デザインとなっています。

身と蓋の内側はすり漆塗りで木目が

見え木の風合いを楽しんで頂けます。

Introducing a wooden carved lidded bowl (sweet dish) from Sanuki Lacquerware.

This piece is carefully handcrafted by a skilled artisan, who uses a chisel to carve the base. The natural lacquer is applied by hand in multiple layers, with each layer being carefully rubbed in to achieve a smooth and refined finish.

The technique known as "Zokokunuri" is named after Tamakaji Zokoku, the founder of Kagawa Lacquer Art, and refers to a specific method of lacquer application. The base, processed on a wheel, is hardened with wood stabilizer, then repeatedly coated with raw lacquer. Afterward, Makomo, a perennial grass found along riverbanks and ponds, is sprinkled onto the lacquered surface, and additional layers of lacquer are applied, completing the intricate process.

Over time, the lacquer develops a lustrous sheen and unique shadows, enhancing the bowl’s rustic charm and aging gracefully with use. The Zokokunuri finish is highly durable, making it suitable for daily use and ensuring it remains a cherished part of your collection for many years.

The intentional retention of the chisel marks on the surface adds a rough texture and handmade feel to the piece, reflecting the craftsmanship and technical skill involved. The marks also serve as a non-slip feature and help the bowl comfortably fit in your hands. The exceptional durability of this piece ensures it will last for generations.
