越前塗から宮田宗景作の中棗のご紹介です。

木製の生地にうるしを塗って蒔絵が

描かれています。

茶道で抹茶を入れて使う道具を茶器と

呼んでいます。

棗は薄茶を入れる代表的な形で、植物の棗の

実に形が似ていることからの名称です。

中でもこの中棗は、棗の基本となる形と

大きさとなります。

木地に黒うるしを塗って秋草の蒔絵が

描かれています。

黒地に金で細やかな蒔絵が施され

高い技術が注がれ豪華な風合いに

仕上がっています。

すすき、女郎花（おみなえし）、

桔梗（ききょう）、撫子、萩など秋草が

描かれています。

いずれも６、７月～９，１０月までが見頃に

なり、旧暦の秋は７・８・９月にあたり

現在とは少しずれががあります。

桔梗の花の部分には貝をはめ込んだ螺鈿

（らでん）の技法が使われ、きらりと光る

美しい仕上がりとなっています。

秋の情景が感じられる逸品といえます。

Echizen Lacquerware – Medium Natsume by Sōkei Miyata – Autumn Grasses Design with Raden (Mother-of-Pearl Inlay)

This is a medium-sized natsume (tea caddy) crafted by Sōkei Miyata, a distinguished artisan of Echizen lacquerware.

The piece is made of wood, coated with urushi (natural lacquer), and decorated with maki-e (gold and silver powder sprinkled over lacquer).

In the tea ceremony, utensils used to hold powdered green tea (matcha) are known as cha-ki (tea containers). Among these, the natsume is a representative form used for usucha (thin tea), and it takes its name from its resemblance to the fruit of the jujube tree (natsume in Japanese).

This particular piece is a "medium natsume," which serves as the standard size and form among the various types of natsume.

The base is coated with black lacquer and adorned with maki-e motifs of autumn grasses.

Fine gold maki-e on the deep black background showcases exceptional craftsmanship, resulting in an elegant and luxurious finish.

The autumn grasses depicted include Japanese pampas grass (susuki), maiden flower (ominaeshi), bellflower (kikyō), pink (nadeshiko), and bush clover (hagi).

These flowers typically bloom from June or July through September or October. In the traditional lunar calendar, autumn is considered to span the 7th to 9th months, which differs slightly from the modern seasonal calendar.

The bellflower blossoms are inlaid with mother-of-pearl using the raden technique, giving them a shimmering, luminous beauty.

This piece masterfully evokes the atmosphere of autumn and can be regarded as an exquisite example of seasonal artistry.
