萩焼から國輔窯のぐい呑みのご紹介です。

萩特有の小石の混じった土をろくろ挽きし

釉薬を掛けて作られています。

びわ釉といわれるビワ色の釉薬は

何とも言えない趣のある、やわらかい

風合いとなっています。

ぐい吞み全体が、かいらぎと呼ばれる、

釉薬が縮れた風合いに作られており、

その亀裂は不規則で形、大きさ、長さは

様々で力強い雰囲気が出ています。

貫入やピンホールも数多くあり、萩焼特有の

荒々しさが感じられます。

高台は切高台で萩焼の特徴の一つと

なっています。

胴にはうっすらとろくろ目があり、

正面にはへこみが付けられ白釉の垂れが

みられます。

酒器としては少し大ぶりなサイズで

たっぷりとしており存在感のある

ぐい呑みです。

見た目の重厚感に比べて、比較的軽く

口が広く洗いやすく扱いやすい形状と

なっています。

口が外側に反っている羽反り口なので

口当たりが良く飲みやすくなっています。

Hagi Ware – Kunisuke Kiln – Biwa Glaze – Kairagi Texture – Guinomi Sake Cup

This guinomi sake cup from Kunisuke Kiln is crafted in Hagi ware style. It is wheel-thrown from Hagi’s distinctive clay, which contains small natural stones, then coated with glaze.

The “biwa” glaze—named for its loquat-like hue—creates a uniquely charming and soft appearance.
The entire surface features kairagi, a texture formed when the glaze contracts and wrinkles during firing. The resulting cracks are irregular in shape, size, and length, giving the piece a bold and dynamic character.

It is further accented with numerous crazing lines and pinholes, enhancing the rustic, unrefined beauty characteristic of Hagi ware.
The cut foot (kirikōdai) is another hallmark of the style.

Subtle wheel-throwing marks are visible on the body, with a small indentation on the front where white glaze has dripped naturally.

Slightly larger than typical sake cups, this guinomi has a generous capacity and strong visual presence. Despite its solid appearance, it is relatively lightweight. Its wide mouth makes it easy to wash and handle.

The gently flared lip (hazori kuchi) provides a smooth, pleasant drinking experience.
