萩焼から河野聡作の手づくり湯呑の

ご紹介です。

萩焼特有の小石の混じった茶色の土を

ろくろ挽きし釉薬を掛けて作られています。

胴は丸みを帯び、ろくろ目が見られます。

表面には無数のピンホールと凹凸があり、

荒々しさを感じます。

胴の四方には、えくぼが作られ持ちやすく

なっています。

胴は薄いビワ色ですが、口の部分のみ

白釉が掛けられ特徴となっています。

口作りは羽反り型で口当たりが良く、

飲みやすくなっています。

使い込んで頂き「萩の七変化」を

楽しんで頂けます。

趣のある味わい深い器でお茶を楽しんで

頂けそうです。

Hagi Ware – Yunomi Tea Cup by Satoshi Kono – “Ekubo”

This is a handmade yunomi tea cup by Satoshi Kono, crafted in the tradition of Hagi ware.

It is made on the potter’s wheel using Hagi’s distinctive brown clay mixed with small stones, then finished with glaze. The body is rounded, showing traces of the wheel. Its surface bears countless pinholes and natural unevenness, giving it a rugged character.

On four sides of the body, small “dimples” (ekubo) are formed, making it comfortable to hold. The body is a soft loquat (biwa) color, while only the rim is coated with a white glaze, serving as a striking accent.

The rim is slightly flared in the hazori style, ensuring a smooth touch and easy drinking. With continued use, the cup will gradually transform, allowing you to enjoy the celebrated “Seven Changes of Hagi.”

It is a vessel of refined charm and depth, ideal for savoring tea.
