越前塗から木製の春秋（しゅんじゅう）茶器のご紹介です。

春秋とは文字通り春と秋を意味し、ここでは蓋の表に描かれた

梅の金蒔絵と朱に黒うるしで描かれた菊紋のことです。

身は一つで、春と秋で蓋を替えてそれぞれの季節に使うことが出来ます。

梅の蒔絵はバランスの取れた構図で、金蒔絵は二種類の金色を使い分けています。

また花の中の細かい部分まで薄いピンク色で繊細に描かれています。

菊紋の方は、比較的細い線で濃淡があり、シンプルですが手描き感が出ています。

Echizen Lacquer – Wooden “Shunju” Tea Caddy with Urushi Lacquer

This is a wooden Shunju (Spring and Autumn) tea caddy from Echizen lacquerware.

Shunju literally means “spring and autumn,” and here it refers to the decorations on the lids: a plum blossom motif in gold maki-e for spring, and a chrysanthemum crest painted in vermilion with black lacquer for autumn.

The body is a single piece, and by changing the lids, the caddy can be used to suit each season.

The plum blossom maki-e is composed with a well-balanced design, using two different shades of gold. Even the delicate details inside the blossoms are finely rendered in pale pink, giving it a refined touch.

The chrysanthemum crest, on the other hand, is executed with relatively thin lines and subtle shading. Though simple, it conveys the hand-painted character of the design.

The form of the tea caddy is wide-mouthed and flat, providing stability and ease of use.
