山中塗から木製の真塗茶器のご紹介です。

この茶器は平棗といって、普通の棗の比べて径が大きく

背が低くなっています。

口が大きいので、抹茶を入れやすく扱いやすい茶器です。

全くの黒無地の真塗でとてもシンプルなデザインとなっています。

また、普通の茶器は蓋と身は別々に塗っていますが

この平棗は「切合口」（きりあいくち）という技法で作られているので

蓋と身の境目が目立ちにくくなっています。

「切合口」とは、茶器の蓋と身を密着させて漆を塗り、仕上がった後に

その蓋と身を二つに割って、その合口をきれいに揃える技法です。

蓋と身を別々に塗るのに比べて、高い技術と手間がかけられています。

Yamanaka Lacquerware Wooden True Lacquer Tea Caddy (Hira-natsume, Kiri-ai-guchi, Superior Grade)

We are pleased to introduce a wooden tea caddy in true lacquer (shin-nuri) from Yamanaka Lacquerware.

This tea caddy is called a hira-natsume. Compared to a standard natsume, it has a wider diameter and a lower profile.

Thanks to its wide opening, it is easy to place and handle matcha in this caddy.

Finished entirely in plain black shin-nuri, it has a very simple and refined design.

Unlike ordinary tea caddies, where the lid and body are lacquered separately, this hira-natsume is crafted using the kiri-ai-guchi technique, which makes the joint between the lid and body far less noticeable.

Kiri-ai-guchi is a method in which the lid and body of the caddy are fitted together tightly, lacquered as one, and then split apart after finishing to create a perfectly aligned joint.

Compared to lacquering the lid and body separately, this technique requires greater skill and significantly more time and effort.
