Kyo Ware (Kiyomizu-yaki) Matcha Bowl with Cosmos Design by Naone

This is a matcha bowl with a cosmos flower motif, handcrafted by Naone, an artisan of Kyo ware (Kiyomizu-yaki).

Formed on the potter’s wheel using white clay, the bowl is hand-painted with cosmos flowers and buds in white, purple, and pink.

Lush green leaves are also delicately painted, giving the piece a fresh and vibrant feel.

Each cosmos flower is outlined in gold, adding a touch of elegance and refinement.

Multiple colors have been used, requiring considerable time, effort, and high-level skill to achieve the intricate detailing.

The body of the bowl is thrown thin, with subtle wheel marks visible. It has a softly rounded form.

The mouth is relatively wide, and when held, the bowl feels light and fits comfortably in the hands.

The base color of the clay is a soft cream, which beautifully enhances the painted decoration. Numerous fine kannyū (crazing) lines appear throughout the glaze, adding texture and character.
