萩焼から林紅陽 作の手づくり抹茶碗の

ご紹介です。

萩特有の小石の混じった赤茶色の土を

ろくろ挽きして作られています。

釉薬を掛けて仕上げられていますが

全体に窯変が見られ、釉薬の複雑な変化が

見所となっています。

所々に灰色に変化した部分や、内側には

御本と言われる赤みを帯びた斑紋があり

様々な変化を楽しめます。

軽めで扱いやすく、口径が広く

内側に少し入った形状で口当たりが良く、

飲みやすい形をしています。

胴の中央にくびれがあり正面には白い釉薬の

垂れがあり風情のある雰囲気が出ています。

少し小ぶりなので手にすっぽりとおさまる

コンパクトな抹茶碗です。

全体に細かな貫入やピンホールなどが見られ

萩焼の特徴がよく出ています。

Hagi Ware – Matcha Bowl by Koyo Hayashi – Kiln Variation

Introducing a handcrafted matcha bowl by Koyo Hayashi, created in the tradition of Hagi ware.

This bowl is wheel-thrown using reddish-brown clay distinctive to Hagi, which contains small natural stones.

While finished with a glaze, the entire surface exhibits kiln variations (yohen), showcasing complex and expressive changes in the glaze—a highlight of the piece.

Some areas show gray-toned transformations, while the interior features reddish speckles known as gohon, offering a rich visual variety.

Lightweight and easy to handle, the bowl has a wide mouth and a slightly inward-curving form, providing a smooth lip and making it comfortable to drink from.

A gentle indentation at the center of the body and flowing white glaze on the front add a poetic charm to its appearance.

Slightly compact in size, it fits neatly in the hand—an intimate and practical matcha bowl.

Fine crazing (kan’nyū) and pinholes can be seen across the surface, expressing the unique characteristics of Hagi ware.
