Yamanaka Lacquerware – Hand-Carved Wooden Donburi Bowl, Medium, Thinly Turned, Urushi Lacquered
This is a wooden donburi bowl from Yamanaka lacquerware.
It is made by hollowing out a block of Japanese zelkova wood and finishing it with multiple layers of urushi lacquer.
The bowl is finished with a suri-urushi (rubbed urushi) coating, which allows the natural wood grain to show beautifully and gives the bowl a warm, natural feel.
The surface is exceptionally smooth, making it very comfortable to use.
The bowl has been carefully polished, and the considerable amount of time and craftsmanship that has gone into its creation can be appreciated.
The wooden body is made relatively thin, making the bowl lightweight and easy to handle.
