越前塗　木製　ミニ　二月堂　曙

越前塗から、木製の「二月堂」という机の

ご紹介です。

奈良の東大寺のお水取りで有名な二月堂の

中にあった机として１２００年以上前から

使われていることに由来しています。

この二月堂は通常の机のサイズよりも一回り

小さく出来ていてミニサイズとなっています。

特徴としては、天板が「筆返し」といって

両端が少し上がっています。

「筆返し」とは筆が机の上でころころと

転がり落ちないように机の天板の両縁に

工夫がなされています。

また、側面の板に日月といって、太陽の

象徴として丸、月の象徴として月の形が

くり抜かれています。

脚は折りたためるので、収納するにも

場取りません。

塗りは曙（あけぼの）といって、下地に朱、

上に黒が塗られているので使い込んで擦れて

きても、下地の朱が見えるだけで、使えば

使うほど時代がついて味わいが出てきます。

このミニチュア二月堂はサイドテーブルや

何かを飾ったりお供え用の台としてなど、

Echizen-nuri - Wooden Miniature "Nigatsudo" Table - Akebono
Introducing a wooden "Nigatsudo" table from Echizen-nuri.

This table is inspired by the one used in the Nigatsudo, famous for the water-drawing ceremony at Todai-ji in Nara, which has been in use for over 1,200 years.

This Nigatsudo is designed in a smaller, mini size, slightly reduced from the standard table dimensions.

A notable feature is the "fude-kaeshi" (brush return) design, where both ends of the tabletop are slightly raised to prevent brushes from rolling off.

Additionally, the side panels are carved with symbols of the sun and moon: a circle representing the sun and a crescent shape for the moon.

The legs are foldable, making it easy to store without taking up much space.

The finish is known as Akebono, with a base coat of vermilion and a top coat of black. As the table is used and begins to wear, the underlying vermilion becomes visible, enhancing its character over time.

This miniature Nigatsudo can serve various purposes, such as a side table, display stand, or altar, adaptable to the user's needs.
