備前焼は岡山県備前市周辺で焼かれた焼物で

釉薬を全く使わずに「酸化焔焼成」で

焼き締めて作られており土そのものの

味わいを感じることが出来ます。

備前焼は土の特性で、花入れでしたら水が

腐りにくく花が長持ちするとか、湯呑などは

入れた水やお茶の味がまろやかなになると

言われています。

この花入は桟切（さんぎり）と呼ばれる

焼き方をされており何とも言えない複雑で

渋い風合いが出ています。

「桟切」は松割木が燃尽きた灰に覆われて、

空気の流通が妨げられ燻し焼きになって

窯変して模様が出来ます。

全体が寸胴型でシンプルで気軽に花を

活けることが出来ます。

胴にはろくろ目が見られ手づくりの

味わいがあります。

茶道などで床の間などに活ける

侘びた茶花によく合う落ち着きある

花器といえます。

Bizen ware is a type of pottery produced in and around Bizen City, Okayama Prefecture. It is fired using the oxidation flame firing method without the use of any glaze, allowing one to appreciate the raw beauty and texture of the clay itself.

Due to the characteristics of Bizen clay, it is said that flower vases help keep water fresh for longer, making flowers last longer, and that tea cups and other drinking vessels enhance the smoothness of water and tea.

This flower vase is fired using the Sangiri method, which gives it a complex, understated, and refined texture.

The Sangiri technique involves covering the piece with ash from burned pinewood, which prevents air circulation, causing the piece to be smoked-fired and resulting in distinctive patterns.

The vase has a simple cylindrical shape, making it easy to arrange flowers in a relaxed manner. The lathe marks on the body add to the handcrafted charm, showcasing its artisanal quality.

This vase is perfectly suited for wabi-style tea flowers in a tokonoma (alcove) for tea ceremonies, as well as for everyday use in a home. It has a calm, balanced aesthetic, making it ideal for displaying flowers.
